I love a good hardboiled mystery. 
I consider myself an "armchair detective" myself; reading a good mystery, or "whodunit" as the case may be, is always entertaining if done right. I especially like the ones where the detective is an iron-jawed hard case, the crime he's investigating is brutal and cloaked in shadow, and the leading ladies can melt steel with their bedroom eyes. If I ever keep the promise to myself and publish a detective story on Amazon, that would be the kind of story I'd write.
And this would be the cover I'd use.
