Description
It is said that "Fools rush in where angels fear to Tread". Too often that's a true statement. That said, an old line of poetry reminds us to aspire to be angelic in five simple words: "Don't Be Afraid to Fly".
Something done for my late grandfather who recently passed away. He too was a fan of my style of art, just like my mother. Over the last little while, things were rough between us. I had the opportunity to make my peace with him in his final days, sitting by his bedside and talking to him. I brought my sketchbook with me each time (morphine tends to make one sleepy, especially in his condition).
But, with a true sense of humor to the end, he made a request of me. He said, "Draw me an angel, one with a nice pair of wings "; I'm using the emoticon, but he really did wink. I knew what he meant. It took me an 2 hours or so to sketch up the angel. When he woke up, I showed him the sketch. It was the first real belly laugh he'd made in months.
I scanned and colored this on my computer. The original sketch was buried with him in his casket (and no, it's not weird; my uncle stuck a bottle of Sambuca in there, too. It's a tradition in some families and religions, so there ).
Anyway, like the line above said: "Don't Be Afraid to Fly".
Hope you Enjoy!
